Diels Alder Reaction for Cyclic Reactants and Bicyclo Products

March 5, 2015 By Leah4sci 15 Comments

Diels Alder Cyclo and Bicyclo MoleculesThe Diels Alder reaction will appear in many different forms on your organic chemistry exams. My favorite is when you're given a cyclic starting diene, or perhaps a bicyclic product and asked to find the starting diene and dienophile. In this video I show you how to tackle these problems using my trick from video 1.

These videos were awesome in explaining Diels-Alder Reactions! I was wondering since the previous comments were from like 4 years ago, if you’d gotten around to the other parts of the Diels-Alder Reactions Videos yet? Like any on the stereochemistry of Diels-Alder? Thank you!

Hi Leah. I really appreciate the videos! Is there any chance that part 3 of the videos will be up soon? This is the first reaction we’re learning in my Orgo 2 class.

    Hi Leah,

    These videos are super helpful!

Do you have part 3 of the Diels-Alder reaction series? (Because in the 2nd video I think you say to look at the next video for asymmetrical products/reactants and their steriochemistry.)

    Thanks

Hi Leah, could you make finishing this series at the top of your checklist in the near future? Thanks! 🙂

Oh my god you’re a god-send!! I haven’t been able to figure out how to do the dies-alder reaction with cyclic starting materials at all!! This makes it so much more easy!!! Thanks so much!!!!

Thank you for the feedback, unfortunately, I didn’t get to finish this series before the semester ended and we started on a new series.

Leah, these videos are AWESOME! Honestly, thank you so much. You were right about Diels Alder being easier once you get the hang of it.
