Strecker Synthesis is one of the first laboratory methods for synthesizing an alpha amino acid.
Strecker synthesis starts out with a nucleophilic addition of nitrogen to an aldehyde followed by a SECOND nucleophilic addition of cyanide (nitrile group) to the imine intermediate.
